Melbourne in May

Australia 1 Greece 0

The MCG was absolutely packed, and it was well worth a visit. The crowd of 90,000 came all dressed up and well prepared for a party - half in green & gold, the other half in blue & white. Nice goal by Skoko, otherwise most of the fun happened off the pitch.

Judging by the temperature last night the snow can't be too far away. I for one enjoy looking at the live web cams from the alps, and as you can see there's no powder yet.

Melbourne can be nice in May when you get the crisp and cold weather variety we have right now. If you are thinking of going to the snow this year, you may find accommodation with
Stella Resorts Group which manages a number of resorts at Falls Creek and Mt Hotham.
Day trips from Melbourne to to Lake Mountain near Marysville are highly recommended. Conditions are usually very good for cross country skiing, and the kids will enjoy tobogganing. On the way back you could try out the roadhouse in Marysville - nice and big open fire, and superb home made hamburgers with wedges.

Stella can also assist with hotel accommodation in Albert Park and St Kilda, but we are more interested in getting out of the city. The Mornington Peninsula is great, although surfing at Gunnamatta and dinner at the Portsea Pub is more of a summer activity for most of us.

We are off to Lygon Street for a quick bite. Pizza at Papa Gino's is a safe bet thanks to Harry who has kept faith with the same recipe for 30 years.

Wishing the best of luck to the Socceroos in Germany.
